Recirculation Aquaculture

Recirculating Aquaculture
Recirculation system at Upper Hayne

Recirculation aquaculture reuses water by pumping through a filter system to remove impurities before returning the water to fish being reared in tanks.  This approach allows for rearing a relatively large amount of fish in a confined space without using vast amounts of water.  The main draw backs with this approach of fish farming is the large amounts of energy needed to run the system and the possible compromise on some aspects of fish welfare.

The future of recirculation aquaculture at Upper Hayne

At Aquavision, we feel there could great potential to develop ecologically sustainable recirculation systems which are able to support both a healthy fish and water plant population utilizing sun light, renewable energy, and feeds grown on site or locally.

We are currently running trials with small scale backyard fish farming systems (carp and trout) along with several aquaponic demonstations..  These demonstrations have prooved very popular with our courses.  We are working with Aquaponics UK to trial and develop working systems for people to buy.
